Default 98 Civic with D16Y8 engine

According to Haynes, this engine is a SOHC. Can you tell me the difference between a SOHC and a DOHC, performancewise, etc.? What can I do with this engine as far as performance?

I still have my problem with it kicking a bit between 2-3K, so I'm trying to figure out what the problem is. I put 2 bottles of Sea Foam in the gas tank (at separate times), but that hasn't helped. I've been told I can put it in the brake vacuum line or the throttle body. Any suggestions?

You can do a whole lot to it but I wuld run the turbo over 6 psi with stock internals. DOHC are better but you can manage with SOHC. You do have a vtec which is good. Adding h/i/e will make it much more solid and then you are free from there on out.
