99-00 SI Shift Points Daily and Racing B16A
What are the recommendedshift points for regular daily driving for 99-00 Si B16A motor with the 5 speed tranny?
What are the recommended shift points for racing that are safe, without over revving?
Thanks!

If you are looking for the recommended shift points for daily driving
check out your manual.
Honda spells it out for you.
As for racing, well,
let's hear it guys

For everyday its around 3.5-4k and for racing I dont really know but I dont let mine pass the red line, so 7k at the most(rarely let it go up there) but than again I have SOHC Vtec, red line starts after 7. It says in your manual to avoid high RPMs because it damages the engine, so if you hear people say switch at 6-7k or red line it for everyday driving, don't do it, you are only hurting your car.

Ok, for one your engine is different than his so his redlines higher, and second They wouldn't put the redline there unless it hurt the engine at lower revolutions.
Right you don't want to be bouncing off the rev limiter every time your driving, but if your cars in good health nothing wrong with going up to 7500 on his engine.

i have an si and when i race i take it to about 7500, any higher and your not making any more power. rev limiter kicks in around 8000 (which is the redline for the b16a2)

for racing, rev a b16 to 7800. if youre shifting before that, youll fall out of vtec on the next gear. even though power falls off slightly at about 74-7500, its the next gear that matters. as for daily driving, youll get used to it. theres no reason to redline it all the time, but theres also not really a specific rpm you should shift at. just kind of find the rhythm of it, it mostly depends on traffic around you. I probably average 3-5k just cruising along.

true^ it definetely does wear it out faster and puts more stress on everything. and theres really no point in it anyway. it just makes you look like an *** to all the drivers around you if you are wrapping it out to 8k every shift.
