Ive heard alot about generation of a civic. what does generation of a civic mean and how do i know what mine is.

What year Civic do you have? Within a generation, Civics are very similar yet not identical.
4th generation = 88-91 (I think?)
5th generation = 92-95
6th generation = 96-00
7th generation = 01-05
