Ah, but you just said yourself that you were looking at $2,000+.

Am I wrong?

And FYI, $1,200 is for the turbo kit.

yes, you're wrong. i said 1g to get to 2 liters and 1 g for pistons and management,+... the plus means cams. that is 1 g to get to 2 liters and another $1000 to get to 200/150 power.

now price out a $1200 turbo kit. i'm interested in seeing what is all involved in a $1200, 200 whp turbo kit.

OK, so then based on what you're saying, we can assume $2,000 into the B16 (since we're not trying to get to 2 liters). Unfortunately, it's 2:30 AM and I can't call any of my wrecking yards or importers and I don't feel like hunting the parts down on eBay, so I can't really give you an estimate (I know that just seems like an easy way out, but it's true). But keep in mind I'm not talking about brand new parts here, so it's easily done for under $1,500. People on here have done it. And even if you did end up spending $2k on the kit alone, you could still hit 200whp with nothing else.

ok, i'll let you have another $800 over your original claim. build a turbo kit for $2000. you wanna cobble something together? you can play the junkyard pirate, zip-tie bandit with your car.. i'll build a nice engine for myself and suggest the same to those i advise.

tripped-over-this-part turbo kit for $2000 plans by kappa soon to come...

Call it whatever you want, but just because it comes in plastic wrap doesn't necessarily make it better. You should know that... you don't go out and buy a brand new engine every time your head gasket needs to be replaced. You buy a turbo/compressor and rebuild it. You buy piping and have it re-honed. You use a 1G DSM BOV if you have to. You find a barely-used turbo manifold and even an EMS. You get some decent connections so you're not shopping from a JCW catalog for your exhaust system because it's new and shiny. You desperately need to discover the Japanese import market for used parts...

Advise away, but call me when you actually start doing the work.

And a $1,200 kit can still be done.

yaa.. that's where i got my ctr brake conversion.. thanks.

i've given my advise and as far as this thread goes i've offered the author the best and most informative option thus far.. maybe you can supply the parts required for a $2000 turbo kit.. if so, you have eluded it so far.

sure.. $1200.. "band clamp?.. ah **** it! just give me 2 zip ties.. YAA, the big ones!"

You mean you bought parts that weren't brand new????? Oh geez, are you sure that's a good idea????

Let's recap exactly what you've offered: You've told someone who most likely isn't a mechanic that they can go out and build a Frankenstein engine themselves for about $2,000, and have basically assured them it will have no problems. But you forgot that in order to build a reliable hybrid motor, you almost certainly need to rebuild the original first, because you need more than forged pistons to run a B20 bottom end to 7,000 rpm every day. Now, if they aren't a mechanic, someone else will be doing the work for them, and your $2,000 estimate is shot to hell.

Explain to me how this is the best option.

And I'll leave your distrust in the turbo kit unnoticed. Not everyone knows where to look.

i told him that if he is capable of a doing a list of things (look back to my earlier post) that he can build a reliable b20vtec. you don't have to be a mechanic. i've done it. i am an engineering/physics student and have never taken a single shop class. it's not that hard to pull a lower end apart and put new pistons in it. someday we may even see humanzees performing these tasks.

now, i'm still not satisfied.. i want to see what parts a $1200 or a $2000, as it's been raised, turbo kit consists of.
