Default Build D16Y7 or get a B18C1

Alright, i've been thinking this over and I can't decide what to do. Right now I have an A/T 97 LX with a D16Y7. Should I work on this engine and eventually turbo, or just save up and get a M/T B18C1? To turbo I need a manual tranny right? So I'd have to swap the tranny if I wanted to turbo the D16Y7? Thanks

you dont need a 5-speed to turbo. you can boost your auto.

Id get the DOHC VTEC B18C, the Y7 is a non-vtec SOHC. But you should get a 5-speed B18C

I guess the bigger question is how much money do you want to spend, and what kind of power are you looking for?

Well, I'd like to eventually be able to get into the 350HP range or so. What would be the best option for that?

b18 is your best bet if ur willing to put the work, time, and money into it...

the d16 will be quick turbo'd but not as reliable and wont be able to push the power a b18 will...

b18, especially since you're trying to get into the 350+ hp range. not saying it can't be done with the D, but it'll be more reliable with the b18

Alright, so maybe save up for the B18C1, swap that in. And then save up again and run a turbo with low boost on stock internals for a while?

Well, I want to either stay with my engine or go for the B18C. If I could get a K20 though that would be sick. So, besides the K20, is the B18 probably the best engine for my car? And how long would I be able to run low boost on stock internals?
