The 1998-2000 Civics in Europe and Japan came with a cabin air filter, and you can install one in your USDM 1998-2000 Civic (butONLYIF you have factory A/C).Since the USDM Civics didn't originally come with one - youhave to buy one for a 1998 CRV - Honda part# 80290-ST3-E01FILTER ASSY., AIR CONDITIONER$45.31. This is the complete kit with the filter, frame and foam seal. Then when you replace the filter later, you just buy the filterelement itself - 80291-ST3-505ELEMENT, FILTER$17.81(or you can go to any auto parts store to get one) - just remember to get one for a 1998 Honda CRV or 2001 Insight (same part).

Here is a link to honda-tech where there is a how-to posting with pics to install it yourself.

it's very nice to have sometimes, but you need to remember, that filters need to be changed regularly before they clog up, and the filter and pipes can sometimes mildew leading to horrible odor with your a/c.
