Default Car vibrating and rattling

Hi Guys !!

Let me first introduce myself! I am a newbie here and I own a Civic 97 EX Coupe and its a Stock! I have been following lot of DIY's and have had a good time just reading thru the responses. Learned a lot !! Thanks all !!

Over the past 1+ month the car has started vibrating a lot (more like rattling). The windows make sound. All plastic components kind of vibrate and the car has become extremely noisy... When I am at a red light.. the car just sits and rattles. On the highway, the engine is making a lot of noise.. I literally have to put the car in neutral to feel better on the highway

I did the following already :
- Engine oil changed (was due)
- Transmission oil changed (was due second change as it was leaking a bit)
- Tires are new anyway ( Not noisy)
- Muffler replaced 2 years back ( doesnt sound like its the muffler.. )
- The pipe which leads to the muffler changed last year (OEM)

Still.. the vibration and the loud noise exists when I accelerate.. Any inputs will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Its a 1997 Civic EX with 135K on it. Use to run smooth like butter

mine does too because when we put the system in, we lost half the screws for the pannels and stuff... you tend to get used to it lol

Have you noticed a drop in fuel milage or performance.

Often times sever rattling regardless of stopping or moving can mean a misfire in the engine. What was the last time you replaced you Cap and Rotor, wires and spark plugs?

I changed spark plugs about 6k miles ago. Cap, rotor and wires have never been replaced. There is significant loss of power (high rpms and engine noise) whereas the milage remains the same.

My 14 year old EG surprisingly doesn't rattle or makes noise. I suggest you check your engine and trans mounts.

If you have tried removing the dash or whatever make sure you all lthe screws on it or at least it was secured pretty good.

I think you have a timing issue that is mostly the cause of your RPMs reving on there own when idle
