Cheap Tricks
#11
with that many miles, i wouldnt worry about swaping the head out. and if you are looking on a budget, id try and find a decent mileage z6. drops right in, just have to swap the ecu for a p28, wire in vtec and go. from what ive seen, makes a good turbo platform aswell (just do a search for d16z6 turbo on youtube) and even stock, its a peppy little motor... or atleast more that what i was expecting when i got the car.

im not gunna do anything extreme like a full engine swap, too much time and this car isn't nice enough to hassle with that kind of stuff, it's kind of a beater i just wanna do some things to gimme some bang for the buck. just wanna fix the rust and make it look stock/clean and do some semi-simple stuff under the hood... i probably shouldnt even do the manual swap but manuals are more fun to drive and im getting the trans for dirt cheap...

if i find a z6 engine for cheap enough ill scoop it up, but for now i'll stick to whatever i can find for cheap like this head for $50 and the valves just need to be re-ground and it should be fine... if i switch over the head am i gunna have to do any thing with the ECU?

If you go with the z6 head, you need a new ecu if you want VTEC, a p28 to be exact, and if you are till going through with the manual swap, pick up a manual p28. And auto one will still work fine after the swap, but will through a CEL for the torque converter that you no longer have. And you can always convert a auto ecu into a manual... you remove 2 resisters and install a jumper.
