Civic Info please :)
Hi all,
1st post here
I am looking at a 1999 Honda Civic (sedan) Automatic tranny
and thought I'd ask you guys afew questions since i'm sure you guys know
these cars inside and out...
#1) are there any known problems on the 99's that I should be aware of,or just something to look out for?? are the transmissions good?
#2) safety ? I have a 5yr old daughter and a wife, right now we both have gas hogs but they are big and that makes us feel comfortable/safe(a Tundra and an Expedition)
I realize It will be a little uncomfortable at first but are the Civic's considered a safe car in general?
#3) Price? the 99 I found has only 55,000 and he's asking KBB for it(roughly $7,000) does that sound about right to you guys??
thanks all in advance

RE: Civic Info please :)
Yeah the prices on civics have gone up a bit over the years for the demand of more gas efficient cars, too be honest thats not a bad deal.
I would ask questions about whats been repaired, with that mileage there prolly wont be much, but around 60k miles is when you should start to check and change things. I would just buy a Haynes manual, it will prolly be mostly routine things like check drive belts, distributor cap, plugs. Around 90-100k is when you will need to do more things like timing belt, water pump, valve adjustments, cv boots, trans fluid (might be sooner for automatics).
It should come with drivers and passenger airbags, I feel safe in mine
If your buying it from a kid make sure that he didn't beat it up, if smoke is coming out of the exhaust or you hear a knocking sound not a ticking sound (honda engines make ticking sounds), or when the tranny shifts it whirrs in one gear for awhile or bounces around might be beat. I'm sure with that mileage should be fine it's hard to find a 99 with that low a miles.
