civic models in australia
Hey everyone,
I live in australia and I've just bought a 1.6L Civic VTi sedan.
I know its a VTEC, and I'm pretty sure its a '95 but there's a chance it could be a '94. I dont have it yet so I cant check at the moment.
Anywhere on the net that I've looked up info on civic model history and that sort of thing, there's a lot of talk of Si and EX and other models like this, but no mention of VTi and GLi and that kind of thing.
Are the models simply named differently in different countries? If so, could anyone tell me what a VTi equates to? It comes with power windows and sunroof as standard which may help you figure out what model that is.
thanks a lot,

RE: civic models in australia
Hi I am from the UK and we also have VTi's. I own one. It is basically the civic Type R of its day. It has a 1.6 DOHC 16valve VTEC engine. It puts out 160 BHP as standard from its B16a engine. You have a good machine there. Very tweekable.

RE: civic models in australia
Thanks for your help mate, but unfortunately I have the car now... and it has a D16Y1 engine not a B16a
Its around 130hp I think, a 1.6L SOHC VTEC engine
It would be so much easier if they were all named the same way, no matter what country! Because now I've got no idea whats going on... a '95 VTi in the UK has a completely different engine to a '95 VTi in Australia? And what's my VTi equal to in the US, an Si?
EDIT: Other than in Australia, the D16Y1 engine is known as a D16Z6.
Hondafreek, I think the B16A engine was introduced in VTi's from '96 onwards
This makes my '95 VTi equivalent to a '95 Si, with 125hp
