Civic question
So my boyfriend, as you all know, is really into the Honda scene. I'm into the Ford scene so we don't really see eye to eye when it comes to the different mechanical aspects of the two. Great relationship, huh?
Anyway, he's contemplating on selling his '97 Civic MTX 2-door (he's modded it, ready to do a... b16a? Or maybe it was a B18 swap.) for a newer hatch. I asked him why he wanted a hatch (it seems his heart is set on a hatch) so badly. He says "Weight, woman, weight!" Now, for a while, I thought he was calling me fat... But then he said "Hatches are lighter in weight. It's better for me to mod a hatch because of this weight difference."
Now, what I wanna know is... #1, ARE hatches lighter than sedans/coupes? And #2, Are hatches really something to be proud of?

RE: Civic question
Thanks for the reply. He mods his cars to the point of "niceness". All of his mods are clean and professional looking. Anyway, do you have an idea about how much lighter a hatch is vs. a sedan/coupe? What makes a hatchback lighter?
As soon as he figures out what to do, him and I are going to be racing on the track to find out which car is faster, my '90 SHO or his '97 Civic (or maybe hatch if he decides to go that route).

RE: Civic question
Hes a smart man to choose a hatchback. And you can definitely be proud of them. Its all what you put into them. Besides the rarity factor (hatches are rarer), he shouldnt be any less proud of a hatchback than he should be of a coupe/sedan. Hatchbacks are quite, um, regal?

I didn't the hatch was THAT much lighter than the coupe. They're cool though.
Good luck racing a Taurus SHO against a Civic on a course though... take him to the drag strip.

RE: Civic question
Yea I have a 95 Civic Hatch With a H22 in it I also have a really extreme weight reduction. The car from the factory weighs 2050lbs now it weighs 1825 with me and that huge motor. But the lighter the better. So Yes to hatchs. Oh yea if your goin for speed get the cx model they are lighter but less "options"
