mabus013, everything you say about weight and electronics jacking up cars is the way i feel. imports were supposed to be cheap and lightweight, but they aren't anymore

I don't know - I've been seeing this trend for a while. I noticed it when I was into VWs - the newer Jettas seemed like really nice cars until you found out that they were 3200lbs with a twist-beam rear suspension.

Dont forget VW's redefine 'electical nightmare'
VW has such a laundry list of complaints from me, and I was fortunate enough to only own the simpler, older models. Probably the worst thing about them is the fact that they rivet - instead of bolt - their differentials in place. You have to open up the tranny and install a differential bolt kit just to be able to do a one-legged burnout and still be able to drive home. Lame.

Oh well - early model double-wishbone Civics, as well as early SE-Rs, 240SXs, Miatas, MR2s and the like are all excellent cars and cheap enough that even my poor, broke *** can afford one - all is not lost .

I'm from indy east side. we have a '91 civic hatch and were thinking exactly the same thing. I'll have to get an automatic though, wife hates a stick. I went on hondas site and configured what we wanted....come out to about $17500 . that might work out for us in a couple of months. I figured might as well get a new one, used ones are so high. Wish they made a hatchback with automatic like our '91 , guess the 2 dr will have to do.

UK has a HATCHBACK..... appears to be the only body style offered in different cofigurations....

http://www.honda.co.uk/civic/

This Civic is a 5 door hatchback, the back doors door handeles are hidden in the window frame (sweet, on a 1st look it seems to be a 2 door), has a panaramic sunroof, electrically adjustible side mirrors that auto retract when you park. Very awsome....

Also indicates that there is options for; Vehicle Stability Assist, a HID (self levelling) lights, Dual Zone Climate Control, Glovebox cooler, rain sensing wipers, a model with a 2.2 i-CTDi Diesel engine (53.3 MPG - impresive). I WONDER IF THIS MODEL WILL MAKE IT TO THE USA NEXT YEAR?
