Default d15b? or d15b1?

my honda motor has d15b etched on the front, is that a d15b1? or 2 or 3 or what? is it vtec? i just bought this thing for $800 its a 1990 honda civic hatchback maybe a swap was installed? the head has a port on the left rear that is sealed? maybe a oil pumo or sumtin definitly usta be opened because there right stuff on a metal plate they covered it with? well the block says d15b any help would be nice

It's a JDM D15B. There is more than one version of JDM D15B, but they are all labeled the same. The cover is normal. The version you have is originally a dual carbuerated engine, and the cover covers up a port that a component from the dual carbuerated setup would have been on. Your engine is no longer carbuerated and is now probably fuel injected like the engine that was originally there. It's is a non-VTEC engine.
