Default D16Y8 Engine?

Wuz up, I have a D16Y8 engine(at least that is what is stamped on the front of it), which is a V-TEC engine right, cause the valve cover does not say v-tec? Second, this is my first 4 clyinder engine ever, before its been 6 or 8 clyinders. To me I dont feel much power especially when I am entering the freeway, am I supposed to feel the v-tec kick in or hear it?

Ok, so after doing a little more research it looks like i do have v-tec, but the question still remains, should i hear it of feel it. and is it very noticable or only slightly?

The whole "vtec kick" thing is really overrated, but yeah, it kicks in at higher RPMs. I forget when.

It's not a powerboost, it's a change in cam profile. You might be able to hear it, especially with an aftermarket exhuast/intake, but it's not going to put you back in your seat by any means

yea i kinda figured that it would not be too noticable, oh well im still looking forward to good gas mileage,i was at 26mpg but after a new fuel filter, nkg plugs, pcv valve, oil & filter im looking forward to hopefully 35mpg, or better. the plugs, fuel fulter and pcv valve look like they have never been replaced.

IIRC it's closer to 4500 rpm, and there is no click/pop. It is just a change in the sound the motor produces, and a minimal one at that.

there is no "vtec boost" It's not a damn turbo

Running a higher Octane level will do you no good either, at least not without F/I

I think on my d16z6 with the P28, vtec kicks in at 4.8k RPMS.

When you have low gas mileage, do the usual tune-up, and also check the spark timing. It is adjustable on that engine.

And it always helps to lay off of the gas pedal. Unless you need to enter a freeway or get out of someone's way, don't make a habit of flooring it.

It's vtec. Not vtech. I highly doubt using higher octane in a stock d16y8 will change anything to do with power, let alone vtec.

wells ladies and gents on a lone and lonely road i hit 5500 rpm and heard a click for a second or so, i guess my vtec works, so i iwll have to listen to mk278 and lay off the gas from now on if i want to hit 35mpg to better.
