well i guess back to the topic, if you rebuild, boost, nitrous, you might be able to make that much power out a D17.
What D17 are you talkin about anyway? A1, A2, A6, A7? Wikipedia says the A1 has 250 hp stock, but i think thats a typo....

I also have a d17a2 and I have been wondering what kind of potential it has, if any. I will be moving out of my apartment in abot a month and will have lots of extra money to spend on my car, but I'm still undecided about what to do. If I keep this civic, what can I expect for about $3k? Also, is it even worth modding a 4dr. automatic? =/

lord love a duck people have some crazy cars here in ohio. the weather makes it almost impossible to keep a decent paint job on a car unless you park it over winter. even then, when you get it out in the spring, you're liable to get snow.
anyhoo, it sounds like you're going to be most practical keeping your D17 and teaching your girl how to drive manual. that second part may sound daunting, but I've managed to teach all three of my past girlfriends to drive manual, and I'm working on my current one. she's a bit slower than the rest were...
this way, you have a lot more money to build the engine, and you don't have to worry as much about all those happy little problems that make you eat tylenol like candy.

RE: d17 215+ hp?
its already an auto. cuz well its just easyer. but i have run some numbers and they go alittle like this...
k20- jhpusa.com - 5,800
full race turbo kit (480hp they say)- turbo-kits.com - 5,299
all that other stuff i would need is kinda pricey too
or........
dzm turbo kit ( 164hp they say) - 3,199 or truehonda.com turbo kit - 3,099... idk what one i would get
new cam - 367
dc header 4-2-1 - 275
so with the money already spent on the d17A2 plus the money from the rest of this stuff its about the same cost of the n/a k20. but with an extra 1,400 i can upgrade the rods, pistons, ect. and push the boost way up on the d17. i have yet to find someone who knows how much boost the stock internals can take but i dont think i would feel safe pushing it past 8psi. with the extra 1,400 i would expect to boost 14-16psi....... any thoughts?

is it sad when your senior government class has the school "resource officer" (dep. sheriff) come in and let you ask him questions about the law and 4 car guys ask if are cars are illegal???? whats worse is, hes like "your the one with the green civic right? yes, you have modified your ride height, and your exhaust and prolly your intake right? yes, i could have you towed, but i dont care" and "ahhh colmen, you have the red teggy, the old one? you have a really low suspension, so even if we could only use a height measurement, im sure you would fail, also, that exhaust is modded" coleman "stock muffler..." cop: "cut out cat..." coleman: "you got me there, oh, you forgot the tip" cop: "no one cares about tips" lol

If your goal is to eventually make it a 9 sec track car (btw expect to dump over 10k at min to get it there) turbo it now, run it on 7psi, start saving for internals and an AEM EMS, toss a 150-200 hp N2O kit on after internals, spend hours on the dyno. Oh and do up a full suspension.

Dezod is the way to go if your going to turbo the D17. If you talk to the guys on 7thgencivic.com about the TSI kit, the fitment isn't so great. Dezod actually owns a 7th gen (Auto) in which he tested and dynoed the kit, and actually daily drives it. He put down some pretty impressive numbers, and my guess it that with a 5spd, it would be around 180 whp with the same boost he had (I want to say 5psi, not sure). With the kit, RSX injectors, and a Greddy Emanage (not the greatest, but it'll work), you're looking at 3900 in parts. To do it right, it's going to be a little more.
Check out 7thgencivic.com...if you have any questions about the Dezod kit, search for the user "Dezod". He's a very helpful guy, and his company goes all out on D17's!
As said before, B-series swap is illegal, and will end up costing you the same if not more then a K20a2 swap.
The K20a (JDM) puts down 220, K20a2 is about 200. If you go to the a3(rsx base, 02-04 si) you're at 160, which isn't bad, but probabaly not worth the cost. I saw a parts list (minus the engine) with much of the stuff from the junk yard, and you're looking at $3000 just for the parts you need for a K-swap.
On a side note, if you're really looking for some power(and money is no object ), get a K24 block from a TSX, and a K20a2 head, and build it...there are some small issues, but someone is in the middle of the build right now.
Hope this helps a little, here are a few links as well:
