I got a 2000 civic with a 1.6 sohc.It has EX emblem but i thought a Ex comes with a 1.8Im wondering if when i buy parts does it matter if its a EX part and i have a DX.

 

A DX and EX both have 1.6 litre motors. A way to tell if your car is an EX assuming cosmetic things is paint matched trim, power windows/doors, sunroof. If your cas has these it is most likely not a dx. If you need to know the differences in the motor just ask and I can help you with that too.

but no, its not a 1.8...its a 1.6 reguardless what civic it came in(after 96) the 99-00 SI got a B16 (better than the D...but same size...) if you buy parts for the engine..most parts wont matter...however, i belive there is a difference in the oil pump...oil pan is the same, but is a different material...every thing but the head really is the same. (the head has the vtec selinoid and wireing, and a little differnt flow...as well as a differnt intake manifold and exhaust manifold design...but they are all interchangeable.....) also, injectors are differnt, but there a direct swap. Usually they only ask you when you go to autozone or whatever so they can charge you a few dollars more for the part. I know i went to AZ for an oil filter...he asked ex or what...i was like "ex..." hes like "x$..." i was like..."wait, its a DX..." hes smiles at me...and says "$4" i was like...score...i cought ya!....

luckly he was one of my friends. there are several different things that are a tiny bit different..but most every thing is a direct swap.

 

the difference in the engine is the DX is a D16y7 which is non-VTEC and the EX is a D16y8 which is a VTEC engine. They are both 1.6 liters though, the EX isnt 1.8.
