Default Distributor or bearing?

I have a knock most noticeable around my distributor or under my valve cover on that side of the engine. Has anyone had this before because I don't want to drive the car much more due to i'm afraid to have it break down. Can I pull the distributor to see if there is something loose as long as I don't move ANYTHING? The engine runs perfect so I don't think it's a bad cam bearing. Anyone have experience with this kind of knock?

Have you adjusted the valves yet? The engine will be noisy with too much valve clearance.

You could take the distributor cap off and check for side play in the distributor shaft without removing it.

I have not adjusted the valves, however the noise is a deep knock which leads me to think it'sa loose bearing. It sounds almost like a rod knock which scared me at first. I took the cap off last night and I did not notice any side play in the shaft (or at least not enough to be making this noise). Can I just pull of the dizzy and check the actual camshaft for play?
