RE: Do it Yourself for Rust Removal?
unfortunatly those are preaty bad
only way to see the true damage is to start scraping away!
the spots are always bigger than they look thru the paint! for that much and ya just want it cleaned up alittle. get a steel wire brush and a drill and grind the paint back until you see clean smooth metal..... then see how thin the metal is... most likely youll have some big holes! if ya realy dont care about the car to much then just after its cleaned up the best you can just slap some bondo over it and slap some primer/sealer over it and call it a day and if it realy bugs ya in primer then get some spray paint that is as close to the color as you can get just spray it on so it doesnt show as bad. either way its beter than the rust it has now.
to replace all that metal will definatly take some time!!!!!
not to mention a full paint job.
but if you REALY REALY care be prepared to spend some time cuting and welding!
your has been neglected far to long!!!!!!

steel wire brush, good and thick gauge, some heavy grit sand paper(like 80), some medium grit and then some fine grit. Get yourself a can of Bondo, a nice new spreader, and few days of free time. Use the steel brush to get off the big stuff, the start sanding til shes smooth, once the metal is shiny find the holes and start to fill the. If you pop rivet some metal sheets behind the large holes use some bondo to fill in the gaps. Then take your grinder once the bondo is cured, grind the tops of the rivets smooth apply a final glazing coat over the rusted areas and paint them as close as you can get them matched. Your gonna need a lot of free time and probably a couple hundred bucks all together, but it will be hella cheaper than a body guy.
