im pretty sure it engages at 5500 rpms but with an sohc it isnt as recognizable as a dohc. an intake, especially a short ram makes it easier to hear

its true, the SI in canada = the EX in america
which would still have vtec...
ONLY if it's a coupe the sedan Ex does NOT have Vtec

You can't feel the vtec engage in the d16y8 but you can definately feel the increase in power.

Si are so better that an Ex model.. I own a 2000 Civic Si DOHC V-tec.. You can really feel it on my car when the V-tec kicks in.
that's because the SI has a dohc engine and the ex has a sohc. Actually, that's pretty much the only difference. From what I've heard, there's not much of a difference in useable power.

it's 5500 for the b16. With the d16z6 and D16y8, it's 4800 rpm.

Ive got the d16y8 and I feel a power difference 5000 and up but nothing like a "kick in" its kind of slow before I feel it.

Heh, then I'll rephrase that to "you can't hear the vtec engage"

Which, for a d16y8, is true. But the increase in power would definately be "feeling" it.
