Default first oil change at 5K miles or 6 months???

Hi all!

I got my 08 LX Coupe in December and have around 2700 miles on it.
I've heard from some that since it's already been six months I should get an oil change or the oil will get 'old'.
But I've also read that I should wait out the 5,000 miles for my first change.

I want to do what's best for my engine but I have no idea what.

Help?

I would get the first one done after about a month. but since you are already past that, I would get it done now then every 5K after that.

Talk to any car guy, mechanic, or whoever, they'll tell you to change your oil every 3000mi/5000km or every 3 months, whichever comes first. Conventional oil DOES break down over time, even without the miles adding up. I know people who store their "summer cars" will put fresh oil in just BEFORE storage, with a couple drops through the spark plug hole for good measure. Then the first day they bring their car out of storage, they will change the oil again. I think thats a little extreme, but you get the point

This does NOT apply to synthetic oil. From what I understand synthetic oil changes are based on milage ONLY.

I agree, every 3,000 miles. Sooner if your running a turbo. I don't car what anyone says change it every 3,000 miles. Its whats best for your engine.

Just follow what the garage says, since your breaking in the car. 3,000 miles is a little obsessive with synthetic unless u have a turbo. Especially that new of a car there's not going to be shards of metal and as many contaminants. There was a thread all about this a couple months ago that changed my views. I suggest to some people to check it out.
