New Car!
Hey. I just got approved for my auto loan and i was wondering what Civic I should get. Ive got a little under 10,000. From what ive read the 2001 EX coupe is pretty decent and has a fairly desirable engine for tuning. I would like to get an SI but I havent been able to find one. What say you? Should i get the 01 ex or is there a better year? Thanks

RE: New Car!
Well I own a 01 ex coupe and I pretty much love it
no problems whatsoever
As for, a better year
It's going to depend on what goals you want to reach
What realistic mods do you have in mind?

First im going to do the obvious 3. Intake Exhaust, Headers. After that engine internals and a BIG OL TURBO. this will be over a years time mind you but i want to get some decent numbers when im done. I was just wondering if there was a better engine to mod or if the EX was a good starting place.

there's only one header, not multiple. And if you are going to turbo it you don't need to buy an aftermarket header or intake. but you could use an aftermarket exhaust system with a high flow cat.
And with $10k you could probably find some '03 or older civics for less. I don't care for hatchbacks, but I would go with an Si. 2000 Si imo. Just pick what body style you like and research on it and it's engine.

I'd go with an '00 EX sedan or hatch. Boosting is usually easier on the 1.6Ls than the 1.7Ls. The EX is usually well-equipped (AC, cruise, sunroof, PW, PL), has VTEC for a nice bump in power over the DX/LX, yet gets better MPG than the Si (gas aint likely to get much cheaper over the coming years). The sedan is nice for cheaper insurance in some areas, for easy fitment of a roofrack, and/or for easy access to the backseat. The hatch is nice for fitting large items when you need to.
