Fluids
I have had my 97 civic ex for almost a year now. I change the oil regularly so i know that's all good. My question is mostly about the transmission fluid. I got the car from some little shady car dealer lot. The car runs fine but i'm not sure what they checked up on before thy sold the car. I heard somewhere that doing a transmission flush might do more harm than good. i got 170,000 miles on engine. I put aboout 12,000 myself. so should i do a transmission flush? or should i just drain and replace. the owners manual says to drain replace every 30,000 miles or every 24 months. Would it be alrite to change the fluids out earlier than that . I'm just lookin for some helpful feedback. Should i change any other fluids while i'm at it?

i heard the same thing that its bad to flush tranny fluid after 100,000 miles but from what i have learned by talking to people on this forum is that most people only decide to change the tranny fluid after something is wrong, they think thatll fix it and it dont, there was alredy something wrong and thats why it broke, not because of the flush. i say go for it, while your at it, change your oil and flush your coolent.

Check the fluid. If it's brown, pink, or milky, or if it smells burnt (if you don't know what burnt ATF smells like, don't worry... if it makes you want to puke, it's burnt ) I'd at least do a drain and fill.
Also, like supersize said, changing the oil & filter and coolant isn't a bad idea, either.
