GPS suggestions wanted
Do any of you have a GPS in your civic? I have a 2006 and the windshield is a long way away. I am hesitating getting one that mounts there. Any suggestions as to what fits and what works well. I am interested in a GPS unit but have not tried any yet.

well, most gps units come only with the windshield mount. what u can do is have it mounted on the left side of your steering wheel on the windshield near the pillar. or u can buy a bracket or have a custom one made for your gps...

you can find a good garmin gps for about $400 to $500 with voice prompt directions. or go with tom tom which is another good gps. i would suggest the garmin better because it actually tells the street names and the tom tom only lets you know how far a distance you have before making a turn and stuff....

Have any of you put a GPS in a Gen8? What make did you install and where? I have been looking at a Garmin 530 from Newegg for about $200. It does not give street names when turns come up, but seems to have all the other features I need.

I've owned three Garmin and one Magellan GPS. I much prefer the Garmin. As you might expect, the more you pay, the greater the number of features. If you do a lot of commuting on busy highways, the high-end units which altert you of traffic delays ahead are a very nice feature to have. They typically run $500-$600 dollars. They also have blue-tooth capabilities as well as MP3 hood-ups which are played through your radio. For $250-$300 dollars, you can get a Garmin with all the basic features you need. They may not tell you what street you will be turning onto, but the name of the street will appear in text, so that's really not a deal breaker. I would recommend that you vist the Garmin website to determine which model has the features you want, then shop the internet for the best deal. As for the windshield mount, distance should not be that great a problem. However, youcan also purchase adhesive discs that glue onto a flat surface on your dashboard, and which serve as a mounting point for the suction cup as supplied with the windshield mount.

I have a Garmin c330 in my Si. It fits perfectly in the little compartment in front of the shifter and picks up satellites just fine down there. I chose this model because it has a large bright touchscreen display. It also has a rechargeable battery that runs about 6-7 hours. This is a nice feature because there are no wires and I can move it from car to motorcycle or wife's truck without the bother of a hardwired unit. It includes all the maps and waypoints and runs about $250.

Garmin FTW. I've got a nuvi, 400? lol, I'm not possitive of the model number, but it works great and I don't leave home without it, It fit on my girlfriend's cousin's 06 coupe just fine. With a garmin, you set it to where you want to go first, then just hook it up and drive 'till you get there, so it being further away from you really isn't an issue.
