it's torqueless, overrated, and overpriced.

B18B1 is cheaper and better.

+1 I am swaping a B18b1 Ls into my 98 HX. Got the complete motor, trans, axels, harness, ecu for $800. Way cheaper than the Vtec motors. Good motor to boost if you go that way, I am kicking aroung the NA or boost idea right now. B16s feel like a D16 until Vtec hits, they have little torque. B18bs are great for street driving as they make good low to mid power. You can take a B16 off the line with a B18b. You will need all 99-00 Si mount brackets for this swap and the D16 trans bracket as well as a Si shifter linkage. th B20b is even beeter and just as cheap, swaps in the same as a B18b. But you need a B series trans and a P75 ecu and Ls intake mani. If you go B18b stick with the Ls trans, the B18b isnt built to live in the high rpm range. The GRS or SI trans will keep the motor at a higher rmp, this also sucks for the highway. A good online store is tiger japanese auto.

Just to add to his question... realistically what could a person get out of a D16 by putting the $2k or even $1k into parts instead of swapping engines? Because to make the engine swap worth while he would probably want to beef up the b18 engine after he gets it and that will add even more to the cost. If the overall budget isnt that high how much hp could he expect out of just beefing up the D?

For 1-2k you can turbocharge the D-series on stock internals and make up to ~225WHP, and on the D16Z6 some people have made up to 250WHP and beyond. The key is in the tune. The 250WHP stock internals D16Z6 had to have an amazing tune. 225WHP would be a much safer goal. Also, you have to use quality parts for it to be reliable. You should only turbocharge a healthy engine. Do a compression check first.

Being as I have a B18b1 in my car, Im going to recommend it. This was my first B series civic, and it blows my others away. B's seem to take very well to simple mods as well. I have done CAI, Header, High flow cat, 2.25 pipes, and muffler on this car for performance so far, and it feels great. Off the line, I have blown past 99-00 Si's. The LS swap has better torque and the LS tranny has longer gears. I prefer the longer gears, while someone else is shifting every 2 seconds, Im still accelerating. And when you do go boost, the longer gears will help even more. The thing to look for though, is a Hydro LS tranny. I have the cable version with the hydro to cable conversion bracket, and Im def looking for a hydro.

a performance shop told me today based on what i told them.

That i want it for everyday driver, want it to pull but nothing high HP power, good on gas.

he told me to go with the b20 swap with a b18 trani, he sayd the b18 trani is great because it comes with 1st gear short, 2nd and 3rd long and 4th n 5th short.

then he went on saying that if i wantd to turbo engine later on i would need to change the pistons, cams, ignition, injectors, n alot more good stuff, what do you guys think based on what they recommend
