Honda Civic 2008 vs 2009
So I am buying a Civic. I was bout to purchase a 2008 civic with about 70k miles. It was checked out by my mechanic who said it was in really good shape, and it has a 91 rating on Carfax.
Now suddenly along comes a 2009. It'll be about 500 more, 9k less miles, but has a much MUCH better warranty. It's certified, and the powertrain is extended to a lifetime warranty.
However, I heard that 2009 Civics have worse brakes than the 2008 model? Premature wear, and Honda does not cover their replacement. Can anyone confirm this or give me some advice? I'd love to just go ahead and grab the 2008 because I'm in final talks already, but if the warranty is too tempting. But the brakes...

I'm not sure about the brakes but the 2009 sounds like a better deal as long as the brakes aren't garbage.
Are they the same trim level?
Are you a Hyundai dealer or something? You just keep promoting that sh*t car company...
examples:
For the record, the timing chain is not a Hyundai selling point. It is fairly standard now. For example, Honda hasn't used a timing belt since 2005.

examples:
I was looking on Consumer Reports & it shows the Toyota Camry is a few thousand dollars less than a Honda Civic.
But if I was to buy a new car (which I never will) I would go directly to a Hyundai & buy an Elantra. They are a very nice looking vehicle. They look much more expensive than they are. Neither the Civic or Camry look anywhere as stylish. The Elandra no longer has a rubber band motor. As of 2011 they use a timing chain. A huge selling point for a former mechanic as me.
If there is one thing I hate about my 90 Civi is the rubber band motor. When our Civic dies it will be replaced with a non rubber band motor vehicle.

[...]In my opinion the weak link to all these cars is the rubber band timing belt. So buying one that has a new belt might not be too bad of a deal. If I was to buy a new car today I would buy a Hyundai Elantra for that reason exactly. The 2011s went to a timing chain on those cars. I hate rubber band engines any make.
I really like the 2011-2012 Hyundai's One big seller to me is a timing chain rather than the rubber band as most use. The cost is way under Honda, Toyota, Subaru, etc. !0 Year 100,000 mileage warranty.
I think they are some of the nicest looking of all the newer vehicles. I have almost bought one a couple of times, but my 90 Civic is still going so until it gives up I will drive it.

Just a suggestion friend If I were you are. I think I will grab the 2008 by the advice of your mechanic...What's the sense of that long warranty if after that time you are not always sure about the quality of that car.

One thing that I found out is the 09 may not have the coolant leaking at the head problem. 06-08 do.
