Hondas have loud engine?
I looked at a 99 Civic EX today. don't know much about Hondas but are their engines generally louder than Toyotas? Their accleration is not as smooth either. I just wanna know if this is a regular thing or not. If it is, why doesn't Honda fix it?
Also, I didn't see a VTEC logo on the engine. Maybe it was too dirty and it was hidden?

RE: Hondas have loud engine?
I don't think honda are louder or have an acceleration problem. Sound like the car you look at wasn't maintain well enough. My Civic had more miles than my friends and his motor was a lot louder. I bought my new and his was used. So I figure his Civic was not taken care of before he got it.

RE: Hondas have loud engine?
saying an engine was "loud" is like saying I traveled "far". Theres really no way to know how to diagnose the issue, if there even is an issue, unless you're as descriptive as possible.

RE: Hondas have loud engine?
If the engine is "loud" and doesn't accelerate smoothly then there is probably a valve timing or ingition issue with the motor.

RE: Hondas have loud engine?
Alot of cars have a noisy valvetrain. Exspecially four bangers. Sometimes sludge and deposits from motor oil build up on the components that make up the valvetrain. They make products that clean and coat the metals making the noise go away.
