does it have it's own seperate key, like the cheap ones from walmart or something. because if so, you're just gonna have to get a locksmith or end up breaking it off, which may damage something else.

any idea that comes to my mind is quickly withdrawn due to the close proximity of sweet flamible gas, if i were u id hire the lock smith and buy a normal gas cap, unless gas theives are actualy a problem

Those cheap ones you can usually take a big pliers or screwdriver (though prying from the side could scratch and dent your car) and break off the top part with the lock. Then unscrew the part that screws into the filler hole.

Have a new cap ready because driving around with no gas cap you're basically a rolling Molotov cocktail.

I remember my friend lost his key for his gas cap, we just shove a big screwdriver in the keyhole and took a gigantic vise grip on the handle. Then we were able to twist tumblers around.I don't know how the Civic's gas filler will hold up because we did this on an older car.

Go to the autoparts store and buy a new cap there, then go to the dealership and have them remove the current one. Install the new one yourself. The dealer was just warning of a wait for the cap itself, correct...not the removal?
