how do I replace oem radio bulbs? 97 Civic LX
My radio in my 97 civic lx doesn't light up all the way.
The LCD lights up, but the buttons are completely dark .
I have taken it out once, to get to climate control bulbs. Has anybody taken the radio apart to see which bulbs it takes? And whether they are easily replaced with a new one or LED?
Edit: once the button backlight came on, it was maybe 10 seconds and went off, so I think it's actually a bad connection.
Thanks

I don't have a lot to spend but can you received recommend a make/model of a car radio that works with stock illumination? I want it to dim with the dash lights.
Also if I buy a generic radio is it supposed to have mounting brackets to fit nicely where my old radio went? I do have generic radio but I don't like that it doesn't dim or have a constant clock displayed on the face.

The bulbs in the stock radio are soldered to the control panel circuit board. You will need experience with taking radios apart and soldering. LED conversion would involve modifying the board to fit apropriate ballast resistors.
The hole in the dash is standard single DIN and almost every aftermarket radio will fit nicely. For a really nice install you will need to fabricate some sort of metal strap to support the back end of the radio-- the frame of most aftermarket radios is not long enough to reach the support bar that the stock radio bolts to.
Very few aftermarket radios will interface with the dimmer system though. Models in the low end price range almost never have any dimming function other than a menu setting for "dim" and "bright".
