how does a rev limiter work

RE: how does a rev limiter work
I'm not completely sure, but this is how i think it works. Lets assume ur rev limiter is set at 8k. Once you hit 8k, your computer is gonna see that you've 8k through the crank angle sensor or some other sensor. In your computer's programming, there is gonna be something that says that when you hit 8k, cut the fuel to the engine. So the computer will cut the fuel (lower or kill injector pulse width) to the engine until it drops under 8k and then it will turn the injectors back on. This cycle will continue as long as you are around the 8k. Now you have to understand that the computer works super fast, so the computer will turn the fuel on and off so fast that you might not even notice. I know that when the rev limiter kicks in in my car, i can see the RPM go up and down a little bit.

basically its a computer fuction that only alows the engine to rev up to a sertain rpm. i think yours is up at like 8200 rpms. its a saftey feature so you dont blow your **** up.
