how hard can i push my civic??
So... I have a 2001 civic dx sedan, a 5 speed. I dont have a tachometer, and it is way sketchy to race. does anyone know the top speeds i can hit in 1st to 3rd gear before it kills my car?? I have been not going over 25 in first, and not over 50 in second. I raced a brand new ford ranger sport today and raped it, but i hit 80 in third and the car kinda smelt bad. If i keep driving like this, will i be okay??? Thanks.

no you won't be okay.
revs kill engines.
that smell you smelled was probably either your engine oil baking from all the high-rpm abuse or your clutch disc slipping massively while shifting.
keep it up and your engine's either gonna explode or your tranny is gonna be laying in the street.
furthermore, street racing CAN get you killed so don't go into it lightly.
btw, killing a ford ranger is like me killing a minivan... which i have (lol).

Dont waste your gas racing a suv/truck... hahaha I'd say when you smell things is when you need to calm down with the racing... that is your engine burning up oil in a not so good way!

That kinda wasnt really what i was looking for. I was wondering how fast i can go in 1st gear before i go over redline. I dont have a tachometer so i go by sound, but at a certain point, it doesnt sound much different. Anyone know??

You're asking a really hard question because you dont have a tach. We cant type the sound or type the pressure you need to put your foot at... just practice feeling it out and you'll get it down
