K20z1 Experience
So I thought I'd write about this, some of you will probably think me stupid but... oh well
I found a guy selling a complete swap K20z1 for $3000. Thinking this was too good to be true I went and checked out the motor. The #2 cylinder wouldn't hold more then 30 lbs compression. I could hear air hissing out the exhaust valves on the compression stroke.
After pulling the head off the seller found out that the piston and exhaust valves had made contact at some point in the motor's life (Over revved?). He offered $2000 which was really damn tempting...
But then I started thinking about it; what all would need to be replaced to fix this motor?
2 exhaust valves
intake manifold gasket
exhaust manifold gasket
head gasket
head studs
valve cover gasket set
new rocker arm/rocker shaft for the one that might have been damaged?
new piston? (new oil pan gasket if piston damage)
new connecting rod?
was the exhaust cam damaged?
was the crank damaged?
and a bunch of time to figure it all out...
I wouldn't be confident dropping this motor until I had the answers to all those questions. Not feeling good about it I turned the guy down.
