maintenance
Hello,
Owner's manual for my 01 Civic Sedan states engine coolant should first be replaced at 120,000 miles or 120 months. I am not near there yet and one of my relative's who is a mechanic said I should not wait that long to have the coolant changed. I think he is right. Any thoughts on why the owner's manual states coolant need not be changed sooner? I do get the fluid levels checked regularly.
Thank you.

I wouldn't want any fluid in my car for that long. Acids and other contaminants build up. Many newer fluids are more resistant to this, but coolant is too cheap to NOT change it more frequently.
