Default Mileage Too High?

Ok , This is my first posting and I need to pick the brains of Civic owners. I am looking to purchase a Civic for my daughter to replace the Nisssan NX that was totalled in an accident. I have found a 1998 Civic for under $3,800. The car is a one owner and all scheduled maintenance has been done. My concern is, it has a total of 157K miles on it. I know with any used car repairs can be expected. Is this too many miles to expect the car to last for a few years? All replys are appreciated.

If it's been well maintained and everything it should be fine for a while. You might wanna check the timing belts and get a tune up, but overall it should last a while. Civics are known for going well over 200k if properly maintained.

157k just fine and dandy. i see prolly about 30 Hondas a day with 100k+, about 25 of them coming in for regular maintenence(mainly oil change). i have 178k on mine and i drive it everyday, drive it very hard at races every month, and no problems. so long as the car has been well maintained and u take care of it, it shouldnt give u problems. so long as nothing is wrong with it now, it'll def. last a few more years no problem.

Like everyone else has said, if it's been maintained well they will last a very long time. I have 175,000 on my 1999 Civic LX, and it's never, ever given me any kind of problem since I owned it (I bought it new in '99) They will be able to go well over 200,000 miles with the proper maintainance. I know a guy with a 91 Accord that has 262,000 miles on it, and he has had no problem.

my old accord now has 233,000 in the hands of my brother. my best friend's old accord is running well over 250,000.

I'm running a 97 EX that's got 133,000. The only running themes here are regular maintainance and a honda emblem on the hood.

247.5K on my 96HX, 190K on my fiancee's 97 HX. Did the regular maintenance - timing belt is important, every 90K! Finally need to put a new clutch in, have an oil pan seal leak that is very minor, but other than that still runnin (knock on wood). I hope to get 300K out of it (hopefully)...

ya like most people will say... timing belt very important! if they have records of it being replaced HUGE PLUS... if not have it inspected or replaced ASAP
as that little belt can trash the motor if it snaps while the engine is running (which im sure it will be runing when it snaps.LOL)

i still have to swap mine. im gonna wait till this summer which is preaty soon realy to swap mine.

but as for anything with higher milage ya realy just have to inspect it to see its condition......

and leaks, horible interior stains or burns... and smoke from motor or exaust and that everything works.
and id www.KBB.com it and see how much its worth and then compare that to what you think its worth and its condition its in....

take it all into consideration... and check all the fluids as well... if alls good it shouldnt be a problem at least anything more than typical used...

My 98' ex has 163 on the clock. Original motor and all. The only major problem i've had was that the CV boot ripped. I have maintained it well and im hoping it will last.
