Is it worth putting money towards or will a motor swap be what you would lean to?

Depends what your goal is for power. A minime is a great way to add power to a SOHC D series motor but if you have more money to spend you can get more gains with a DOHC motor like a B16(civic si) or B18(integra motor) or if you have even more money you could look into an H22 swap (prelude motor).
I personally would be interested in a minime or a b18 swap.

What is your overall goal and will you be getting a turbo eventually or leaving the car NA?

How much power are you looking for? The D-series has a lower power peak than a B or H series. But the D series can make a good amount of power, and is cheaper to work on.

how much $$$$$ do you have to spend? to put the B" series engine in your civic (if you do the work) will cost about $1000 to 1500, if a shop is gonna do it then it could be around $2000 to $2500,

now to give your little D" series a little more power you can put a vtec head on it, for about $300 (if you do the work) or around $500-$600 for a shop to do it.

if you are comfortable with timing belts and head gaskets, make the d15 a DOHC. get a zc head out of an integra and go. your power capabilities will go through the roof atleast for the d series. otherwise, grab a b16 and tranny and swap the whole thing dont forget to wire for vtec....
