MR civic- possible? has it been done?
anyway, i had this crazy idea today.
i really loved my little pontiac fiero gt. if you don't know, they are similar in size and weight to a civic, but they are mid-engine rear wheel drive. they also have very few aftermarket parts (unless you count all the engine swap potential) and are rare as fizzle to find in decent shape anymore.
i NEVER truly got the rear wheels of that car to break free during straight line acceleration - and that's with 165 ft-lbs of LOW end torque. after the third time i got my 107 ft lbs at 5500 rpms to break free by accident today, i thought "how bad-*** would it be to have a mid-engine civic?". the high rev power of our cars would give sweet hook-ups and launches if the engine and drivetrain was in the back. add that to all the aftermarket options we already have, and that would be a damn nice car.
anyone ever seen/heard of anyone trying something like this? i know most people don't have the capacity for something like this in thier garage, but a proffesional with access to a full shop could knock something like this out and maybe make some serious cash doing it.
thoughts? discuss.

its been done once or twice. if i ever get a big enough garage to do projects in, im gonna start doing stuff like this. but that will probably be a few years. it would be sweet to be able to experiment with that kind of stuff.

yeah, if you did it to a coupe you would have to have a giant monkey arm in order to reach in there and check your oil.
i read somewhere that there were AWD honda station wagons or something. if an MR setup proved too difficult, i guess AWD would be OK, assuming everything can be bolted up with a very little fabricating and welding.
