Hey there...i just sold the engine in my car because of some money problems i ran into. Now, all i need is a single cam vtec engine for my 99 civic ex so i can start driving it to work. I was told that i can only put in a 99 or 00 SOHC vtec engine into it because of smog issues. Can some one help me out? I need the complete swap including axles except for shift linkage. I will pay cash. Thanks for the help...

 

oh i love the D series SOHC motors, but if u ever did a swap it would be a DOHC. Who cares about smog...........figure that out later. Get a DOHC with more power. B16 baby.

 

smog is a bitch in cali. if you get pulled over, they will pop your hood and ticket you for anything and everything they can, then send you to the smog Referee, who will basically tell you your car is illegal, and that you have a bunch of fines. and yes Platinum, the replacement engine has to be the same year or newer as the car to be legal.

 

Well the engine that was in my car WAS a B16...but sadly, i had to sell it to pay off a debt. Now im getting back on my feet financially and i wanna put in a motor. I was also wondering about an ls motor...and of corse, i need it 99 or newer...which sucks cuz i only seem to find 94 or 95s. i dont really know what to do...but if anyone has a suggestion, let me know...thanks.

Are you wanting to put the d16y8 back in? Bet you can find one from somebody swaping theres out and putting it on the interent auctions or something.

 

Yea...i wanna put the y8 in it again. I found a couple on ebay but they aint complete. I just found the head and manifolds but no bottom end. You think i can put a 99 civic lx bottom end with the y8 head and it will still function right? Cuz i know a guy parting out his lx and the only good thing on his engine is the bottom end. Also, will the car pass smog and all that with all new performance piping from the headers to the cat?? I found a megan racing resonator/downpipe/cat/headers for about 170 new. Thanks for the help...
