Need help on more power

RE: Need help on more power
Ok, here's a list of some of the things you need to obtain about 150-160 HP. Be ready to dish out about $1500 or so, take your time make the money, and you'll get the power. Use Ebay to your advantage. By the way is your car a 5 speed? Most of these mods are a bolt on so you should be able to do it your self, or have your dad give you a hand. Also, get your self a Haynes manual.
AEM V2 Cold Air Intake or K&N, or Injen intake will be good
Holley 62 or 68mm Throttle Body
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
Performance Spark Plug Wires
AEM or OBX Fuel Rail-
Venom 400 Performance Control Module, disigned to put more gas in to your engine=torque
Slightly Bigger Fuel Injectors-
DC Sports Header, or any other good header
Cat Back Exhaust, 2.25 or 2.5 inch piping
Cam Gear
Increase Compression Ratio 10:1

Ok, well cam gear/gears wont really do that much for you. I mean you can get one, replace the stock one with say like a AEM, advance the timing, that will increase your compression ratio to about 10:1 and you'll have to use premium gas, and you'll gain maybe like 2 HP or so. Usually cam gears are handy when you have some mods done to your engine, like a turbo, bigger cam etc. If you're just starting out, and on a budget, what I would stick with for now is getting a cold air intake, a bigger throttle body, a header, and a cat back. This will be a good point for you to start from. You'll gain say about 20 HP or so, and you'll learn how to work around your car. Then as you save more money, and learn even more about your engine and tuning, you can get in to heavier stuff like intake manifolds, and head swaps. For now just do the basics.

You advance your ignition by tuning the cam gear I believe 18 degrees. That increases your compression. But that really wont give you any good gains other than like 2 horse power. I would'nt worry about it. Get a cold air intake, a bigger TB, a header, and a cat back, then you'll notice some thing different about your car.

RE: Need help on more power
technically, it doesnt "raise the compression" it starts the combustion event earlier, causing a rise in cylinder pressure. the compression is a fixed ratio between the volume of the cylinder at TDC and again at BDC. but its kind of the same end result. and yeah, its 18* BTDC.
