New to the civics
I am new to the HCF and also to a civic. I am currently looking for a honda civic most likely a vtec engine. Right now I have a Chevy Blazer, I love the truck but the gas millage I am getting in city is around 12 MPG as a college student I am not that rich to keep up with it. I dont think I will sell the truck probably use it during the winter time. So I am asking you guys what are the well known things I should check before I buy it? Thank you for your guys input.

If you cant afford 12 mpg, how will you afford a second car, with insurance?
What year are you looking for?
Main things to know is that all fluids have been maintained and the Timing belt has been changed on interval. How you can confidently know this on a used car is almost impossible unless you buy it from your grandma or friend. Hondas are reliable if they're maintained, but if not maintained it gets expensive very quickly. Compare prices on parts between you blazer and honda to get an idea.

the year Im looking is 00-05. its true about the insurance but i did some calculations and the money saved from the gas I will afford the insurance. when I look at the blazer parts so far all I have to done for the truck was suspension parts nothing on the engine besides maintenance and I had to rebuild the transmission which was around $2000. my next question is the transmission. I always had american cars and when i passed 100k miles transmission will be getting worse and worse and needed to be rebuild. how is the transmission on these vehicles.

My 1990 automatic accord's trans was fine till I sold it at 175,000mi.
My 2000 manual civic is completely fine and its at 150,000mi.
I'm pretty easy on it and change the fluid on time. Obviously there are exceptions, but I think they're pretty reliable.
