Arrow Newb question

So tomorrow I pick up my valve cover and spark plug gasket kit. They gave me some gasket maker goo. Where exactly do I put this stuff?
When you stop laughing, please answer. LOL

[edit] strike that

You put the new rubber seal onto the valve cover. Then you use the liquid stuff on the corners of the rubber where it begins to loop upward over the camshaft. Its just the 4 corners of those arch things. Then you put the whole thing carefully back down level onto the head and torque the bolts down to spec.

The liquid stuff ends up between the head and the new gasket on the cover.

Put just a tiny bit on the corners, or you'll have a mess that will be hard to take apart next time. While you have the cover off it's a good time to check / adjust the valve clearance if that hasn't been done recently.

^And while adjusting the valves sounds pretty intense, it's actually quite easy with the right tools (feeler gauge set, wrench, flathead screwdriver, and something to turn the cam)

heh. Have you downloaded the service manual yet? www.hondatech.info, click on Civic and find the one that's for your year. Even if you have NO idea what you're doing or what you're looking at, just flip through it and look at the pictures. It helps. Believe me. I started out knowing NOTHING and ended up somewhat familiar with the engine.

have you already removed the valve cover yet? If not, be very very gentle when loosening and tightening the bolts, because they break off extremely easy especially old ones. if they break, then you will have to drill the broken shafts out and its a nightmare.
