Default octane fuel...

one day i was talkin to a mechanic and he happened to tell me i should run minimum of 89 octane gas, somethin like that cause my D16z6 is really high compression. i said ok? so i go lookin at gas stations and see that thats unleaded plus. need info here...

he also said it helps keep the injectors clean? i said wat? i never heard of that. now, i know u gotta get higher octane fuel when u have lots of mods to prevent detonation like a turbo or watever... so guys, wat ya'll say?

Stock D16Z6 takes 87 octane. Anything higher is a waste of your money. Sure, you can add a fuel additive every blue moon to help clean the injector and such but there is no benefit to running higher octane with a stock untuned D16Z6 engine. Tell that mechanic he's a douche.

Realistically, you're looking at a 10.5:1 or higher CR before higher octanes are needed. Granted, there's other things that factor into that (ignition timing is a big one), but if you're simply going by CR, you're not even close to needing more than 87 octane.

For the record, the Z6 has a CR of 9.2:1. Obviously that's well under 10.5:1.

i thought so... only mods i got is headers, highflow cat, and cat-back exhaust... i know damn well that **** don'tt make a difference on the CR... thanx guys... damn F'd up mechanic... wonder who gave him his certification!
