Default oil consumption

I have a 96 honda ex four door stick sedan 99,000 miles. It uses about a quarter to a half a quart of oil a month.

Is this normal - I have no leaking or nothing on the ground overnight.
car has been great and very reliable - in fact when we bought a new we traded my newer toyota corrolla in instead of this one.

thanks

Well, my car has 166,000 miles and uses no oil at all...anyways I don't really think that's normal. Maybe someone else can give a second opinion.

I'd get a compression test and have a professional look over your engine.

try replacing your pcv valve and do a compression or leak down test

It should probably be looked at, but that's not too suprising considering your car has high miles...but with his car with only 100K, something is wrong.

made another post but shortly after this post I had my oil changed and used mobile clean 7500 and the oil gauge still reads full - so switching to semi-synthetic made the oil consumption go away for now. I tried this at the recommendation of the dealer because he said he has had similiar problems and have seen the synthetic oils not burn off like the natural ones. so my next oil change I am going to give a full synthetic a go and see how that goes.

I still don't have leaks and this car and it has been babied - wife has driven it to work mostly and we have taken some trips in it. I am only my second set of front breaks and second set of tires. going to have the timing belt done soon at the dealer -

I do have one question though - only on my hood I am getting what the dealer said is clearcoat cracks - it looks like someone took a razor blade and put cuts in the clear coat. they said it was because of the sun and the heat of the hood. the rest of the paint still looks as good as it did from when we drove it of the dealership lot with 13 miles on it.

so has anybody else had these little cuts in the clearcoat. no paint has came of as of yet but it just looks like the paint is cracking from underneath.

thanks for the forum.
