Default Is it Possible that the Honda scene is Making Us Retarded?

[/align]Before getting all bent out of shaped prematurely, based on the subject title, just hear me out here. .... Honda & the term "bolt-on" has become fused with each other. There's no doubt about that. The vast majority of guys that consider themselves die hard Honda Civic fanatics will hit a huge road block with the modification of their car if it doesn't "bolt-on" And as a result, it's has made a new breed, of what would be considered by many as a generation of guys that actually know very little in terms of basic & extensive car knowledge.

Of course this does not apply to ALL Civic guys be any means, however, does represent the majority. Honestly, this is without a doubt scary & some would say pitiful. Letsuse this forum for example. Why is that there is only 75 threads in the DIY forum? This incomparison to the Appearance section(or how to make your car look mad dope yo) with 4500 + threads or the help forum ( ormy car runs like a$$, help fix it for mebecause I really have no clue) that has 4500 +threads.

Here's the truth, whether we like it or not.Because most Civic guys rely on bolt-on performance, the manufactures of aftermarket performance products for our cars dictate whatour cars are & will become. They are indirectly (or possibly directly)building our cars for us & while doing so, they are completing all the homework & shielding us from having to figure it out ourselves. What's the result of this? Most Civics end up having all the same parts on them (though mixed & matched differently) & the owner of the cardoesn't actually know much about how it's made, how it works or & god forbid, the REAL in depth details. Example::: Buyan exhaust, it shows up looking all shiny, it bolts on cleanly, sounds & performs better then the factory unit.... game over, right?... Not at all. The said Civic owner doesn't know crap about it. Most couldn't tell you thevery basics, such as, the type of metal (mild steel with aluminized coating, 304 stainless, 304L stainless, etc) used to manufacture the exhaust. The idea of knowing the gauge of the metal, the degreesof bends used, type of bends, radius, specifics of the mufflerbaffling, differences of the verse welds, flow dynamics, etc., just aren't there.

It's important that we know that this "bolt-on" mindset commonly foundin the civic community isn't the norm for most performance enthiuists. It's common place for other followers of different car makes & models to know these basics. And as such, when they are commutating, the bolt-on Civic guy is forced to know his place & dare not attempt to join in totheir rain-deer games.

Again, these thingsdon't apply to all but do in fact apply to most. And thank god for the aftermarket performance manufactures that allow the majority of us civic owners to pretend that they really know something.
