Default power locks for 2000 SI?

Hi,

I just test drove a 2000 si and noticed something peculiar with the Power Locks but thought I'd check with civic gurus before going further....

Essentially, how is this feature supposed to work? Is it the same as keyless entry? (i.e. a remote to unlock / lock the doors?). Reason I ask is, the car I test drove did not have a remote to lock/unlock the doors - and when I tried to manually lock the door, it wouldn't budge?? The salesman said you have to close the door, then lock it (using the key) from the outside?? This sounds like an issue to me... Is this normal in 2000 SI's?

Is a remote supplied for locking/unlocking doors on the 2000 model?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

um... the salesman is a retard.

My Si has a remote, after getting out of your car you cannot set the alarm with out it. (one click to lock the doors, two clicks to set the factory alarm)

I've never... EVER used the key to lock/unlock my car.

I'd be asking to see the general manager of the dealership before any money is exchanged if you're interested in that car.

Yeah, you don't need two threads of the exact same thing going. One thread, one question. That's all you need.

It prob didnt come with a factory alarm, just beacause it will honk the horn does not mean it is an alarm, if you do purchase it you should look into aftermarket keyless entry/alarms.
uh yeah I'm fairly sure it did. When you hit the lock button twice the horn honks, that means if someone tries to break into it or pick the lock the horn will start honking.

that=alarm

not necessarily. my moms oldsmobile honks the horn if you hit the button twice. its to find it in a parking lot. im not sayin yours doesnt have it, but im just saying that doesnt mean it for sure. and factory alarms are crap. any decent car thief can get through one easily.

My 2000 Si had the factory keyless and whenever I pushed lock twice the horn honked, I tested it several times getting into the car without the remote and in never honked once, it had no alarm. Im not saying yours doesnt, just that mine didnt and Ive been working on cars for over 5 years and seen a number of 99-00 civics with the "honk" to lock but no alarm. I onced asked a Honda tech about it and he wasnt sure but had heard it is if you want to make sure your car is locked it is an audible confirmation.
how did you test hte alarm? did you break a window or pick the lock and get into it without using the key?
