Is the price right?

Is the price right?
First off, I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, but I think it's correct. Anyway, there is a 1993 EG Civic hatch, (I think CX, for sure not Si), for sale on a used car lot for $3500. It has 118,000 mi on it and the blue book for private party sale is $1600 for this particular car. Kelley's Blue Book states that the suggested retail value is the STARTING POINT of negotiation between the buyer and the seller, and it states the car should be in excellent shape. It has a few dings and scratches but overall it is in good shape. A wise man once said a deal is only good if it's good for both parties, and there isn't an abundance of EG hatch's where I live, which is my favorite model. I know no one is able to make a complete recommendation on it because you can't actually see the car for yourself, but what do you think I should do judging from the info supplied? Any advice would be great, thanks.

Thanks for the advice guys, but I live in Wyo sorry hamorhead. I test drove two that were almost identical, both with base non V-TEC engines and really enjoyed them. I also have heard the term "Honda Reliability." Depending on maintenance and driving habits, is this true?

ya private party value and car lot value are two different things
car lots always want more than the private party guy that is selling the car themselves. just because some car lots come with some kinda warranty. or they just charge more because they can.
you can always haggle all you want sometimes it pays off and sometimes they dont want to make you a deal and your best to just walk away. dont sound to desperate give em a call back the next day and see if they will take the price lower or not. if not id say walk away.

Thanks for the heads up, but I would only do a few bolt-ons to make it sound better, run better, and add a few ponies. I don't care that much about quickness yet. I was thinking I/H/E to start. What about a B-series swap? Would that delete the wimpy factor completely?

Any motor swap will be better than that. It was ridiculously slow. Passing someone on the highway was a feat for that car. I had I/H/E and it didnt do a thing. A B series or even another D would make the car worth having. But 90hp 8 Valve motors arent something worth 3.5k

Thank you. You just proved a great point. I just really want the right kind of car to cruise around town this summer in. Obviously, this particular vehicle isn't it. That just sounded really stupid. But it's true. Thanks again.
