Default r18a1 in my 2008 LX

When does my Vtec hit?... I want to say either 4k or 4500k... but it is SO subtle it's almost like it has to weight shift to gain momentum... haha.

Also, what kind of mods make REAL hp on this motor so far? I already did an intake which is small time ****, so what are some real hp advantages that do not include boost of any sort?

I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but the R18A motor has a reverse i-VTEC motor. When it kicks in it is for econo-mode. Here is a thread about it:

Your motor's tuned for economy, hence the i-vtec. There probably aren't any mods that will make "real" hp (if the 5-10 hp you got from your intake was too little for you). I'm not sure if there's much aftermarket support, so it's questionable whether you could change out the camshaft/pistons. If you don't want forced induction, then nitrous might offer you the kind of gains you're thinking of.

So I read up on the article... What I got from it is, basically I am always " out of VTEC " until I hit cruising speeds or a certain non aggressive rpm range when shifting in the lower gears? So it works the opposite... interesting... So it's aggressive when you actually need it... and when you cruise or baby it, it acts on the lower cam lobes... Hmmmm.... Tell me if I have that correct...

Do they make a cam that is slightly bigger in all aspects that might be good for 3-6 HP? But still act in the same way? I'd like to still have the system work, but a slightly larger size ya know? So I can still get great mileage and get a few more ponies without sacrificing much money at the pump.

dude i havea r18a1 in my 07 ex and trust me theres **** you can do for good hp gains. just cause its i-vtec doesnt mean there wont be kick *** mods for it. I know you dont want boost but me personaly am about to get a turbo that will boost mine from 140 fhp to 220 fhp, then im ganna get a catback exhaust. so for you i would say open that baby up as far as breathing then look at allll the sites you can, there will be somthing good. try this one www.procivic.com i always find good deals here.

Word. Thanks... I know there is a little potential so far but I'm just debating on building another 240sx for a track car like my old one... Cuz THAT was way more fun than any civic I've ever been in anyways lol. We'll see I guess. I'll give it some time and see what comes out.
