a few weeks ago i installed a set of koni yellow shocks with ground control coilovers. (no pictures yet but i will soon) but here lately i've been having trouble getting the rear to sit evenly. the driver's side rear is always a little bit lower than the passenger. i raised the driver's side and lowered the passenger to even it out a bit. (yes its on even pavement lol)

anyone have any ideas as to why its lower on one side? im assuming its a mixture of the added weight of the driver and gas tank?

 

My brother's car does the exact same thing, however, he is on stock suspension. My sits just slightly lower on the driver's side, too, but nothing too noticeable.

 

mine was the same way with my old springs too. but now with the coilovers its gotten worse. if i set them even then the drivers side is about 1/2 inch lower than the passenger haha

 

You mean the spring perches on the coilover sleeves are not at the same position on both sides?

This is because our cars are horribly unbalanced at the corners. Front left is super heavy because the motor's weight and driver weight sit on that front left side. Front right is pretty heavy. Rear left is fairly light but driver sits on that side. Right rear is the lightest. Say you run the same spring rate all around and set all of the perches at the same level, each corner of the car will be at a different height.

What you are explaining is perfectly normal and nothing is wrong. That is just how our cars weight is distributed. Just set the height to what works for you both aesthetically and functionally.

Only way to slightly reduce this is by getting the car corner balanced but that's not necessary for a street car..

 

yeah, now i have the drivers side rear about a 1/2 inch higher than the passenger. if i set both spring perches the same then they're uneven but from what you've explained it makes perfect sense as of why.

 

aw hell, you're kidding?! This is GREAT news. I thought it was because my car had been in a wreck and the damn thing wasn't straight anymore! I get alotta sqeaking from the back too, but I was hoping a strut tower brace might cure that...

 

Racing teams have sets of 4 scales to set the car on and measure the weight distribution, and yes they adjust all 4 springs individually.

 

with all the crap i have to carry around day to day, i just keep my backpack and all my school textbooks in the passenger seat haha
