Default Reasonable Price?

Thinking about buying my teenage daug. a 1998 Honda civic dx. Car is in good shape(inside and out) engine sounds good. Has brand new tires, windshield, battery, muffler and some other things. Planning on paying 3700.00. He was asking for 4200.00. Is my offer reasonable? Car is a one owner with a clear title and carfax. Car has no upgrades. Sorry, the mileage is 113k.

$3700 is more than reasonable; the car blue-books in the $3000 to $3500 range. $3700 for a '98 in good condition isn't bad.

Well, they're great cars... they're reliable, rarely have major issues (any major issue is almost always caused by the driver doing something stupid), and well... they run forever if maintained properly.

It doesn't hurt to offer $3700, either. The worst he can do is not take your offer.

It's a reasonable price. You'll need to replace the timing belt immediately if this job has not already been done. Also note that a 98 Civic DX should be covered by the extended Honda Emissions Warranty. In this case, Honda will fix free of charge any cause for the CEL to turning ON for 15 years or 150K miles after the original purchase.

Hi there, bought the car for 3600.00. Think I got a good deal. Car rides real nice. Been fixing the back seats. It has no brackets so they fall back. Anyone not using their back seats? Just need the brackets. Well thanks for all the replies.

Congrats on getting the car, and for $100 less than you expected

I'm sure your daughter will love the car; like I said before, they're great cars.
