School me on all of those Civic Motors!
I am shopping for a civic, and I am seeing more non-factory motors than factory ones.
For example,
A 92 CX Hatch has a 1.6 L VTEC(SOHC)...
Not factory i'm guessing.
SI motor? Prelude motor? Del Sol? Many people are distinguishing their motors by a 'B' number such as 'B18' etc... What is the 1.6L SOHC? What 'B' is the DOHC, what 'B' is the non-vtech? School me!

RE: School me on all of those Civic Motors!
Thanks,
Heres one I found:
http://www.angelfire.com/extreme4/91civics/engines.htm
Also, WTF is 'JDM'?
I think I will end up buying the 92 CX with the 1.6L SOHC VTEC for my commuter car...
Is there anything to look for when buying a 'swapped' car?
Edit:
http://www.enginereplacement.com/htdocs/chart.htm
This chart shows an 'X' for a D16z in a 92 civic... Chart wrong? Or is this not really a VTEC Motor?
Check out Photo 9... please let me know if 'non-vtec'
I was told to look for the control module under the coil pack, or behind the valve cover.

I believe JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market. I can't say for sure whether the chart is wrong, but there are parts/engines in Japan that don't get released anywhere else.
edit:
Sorry...I misunderstood your question regard the 'X'. I'm not sure what the X stands for. Maybe it means that that particular engine and car are totally incompatible.

Well the easiest way for ME to determine if an engine is SOHC, or DOHC is looking at the letters. D has 1 hump, so it's only has 1 OHC, B has 2 humps so it has 2 OHC.
It's also really easy to determine how many liters an engine has, as it's in it's model name. So for example a B16 is a 1.6 liter, and so is a D16, as for an H22 it is 2.2 liters. Hope that helps you out.
Btw, im not really sure what H stands for, but it is DOHC. Maybe.....Heavy????..because it's about 200 pounds heavier then a stock motor.

Thx for the replies. I know its SOHC... No questions about that. Just not convinced its VTEC... I guess theres only one sure way to find out!
