Default should I bother???

I have a 2000 honda civic dx. Its a 5 speed and its basic as you can get. I beleive it has the d15y7 engine. Is this engine even worth modding? I see people talking about 16's, 18's, and even 20 in the engine number. Im assuming this means its a more powerful engine? I was going to slowly put money into it and over the years hopefully it would turn into somehting really nice, but I dont know how fast it would be in the end? How did your civics dyno after turbo and all that good stuff?

if its a 2000, it should be a d17..but im not sure if he dx is an exception cuz all the other ones are d17s...if it were a d16, i wouldnt be bad, im modding one right now.but dont expect to put down much over 170-200 with stock internals...i wouldnt even trust 150 unelss it was by use of nitrous. but if you just want some bolt ons, and maybe a cam...then sure, you can make it a bit more "peppy" but its not going to be anything crazy. but yes, the number is in reference to the displacemnt...16=1.6 liter 18=1.8 etc. if you could find out exactly what you have under the hood and we can point you in the right direction.

oh and also, you can always swap for something better!

You're engine is a D16y7. All 2000's are still EK's and use d16's, not d17's. Just swap on a Y8 head and you should feel some pretty nice improvemets. Any honda is "worth" upgrading, it just takes patience. The first you should do imo is buy some better suspension, that's the most dramatic upgrade for the cost, you will defenetely notice the difference in the way your car feels. Next I'd save up for that mini-me swap or turbo. You're car has potential, it's just up to you to see it through!

hey man i know ur feeling! when i first got my civic i wanted to mod the engine out and this was before i new anything about engines and moding. i got the same engine at u and i came to relize that there is no point in moding a slow engine. this is just my opinon. ifi were u i would save money and get an engine swap. or just buy another car with a better engine in it.

Well its a 1.6 liter so it would be the d16y7 then. Do the other engines just bolt right in or do you have to make custom mounts? The thing that I like about my car is that it only has 40,000 miles, so I would prefer not to do a swap until she blows. With a cam, high comp pistons, ecu chip, turbo, exhaust, and cold air intake, how much would it put out? Anyone have any dyno's of there cars with such upgrades?

If it only has 40k and your waiting for her to blow, good luck its going to be a long wait. And you can swap using all honda mounts if you want, thats what I did I swapped in a B18C and I used all honda motor mounts. As for building your current motor its just a matter of how much you want to dump into it

if you're motor is in good shape, you can easily get 200 out of turboing that motor...
