Default Some questions???

I have a 98 civic hx. I know the D16Y5 motor sucks due to the vtec-e. I was wondering if anyone has ever put a turbo on this motor?? I am planning to swap in a D16Y8 I have on hand that has been sitting for 2 years but ran great. I plan on replacing the seals, gaskets, water pump and timing belt. Is there anything else I should do to a motor that has been sitting for a while? This motor will be turbo powered at around 6-8 psi. Thanks for any help and opinions.

i'd replace every last fluid on the car also. (power steering fluid, oil, transmission, clutch, brake, coolant).

is it an automatic or manual transmission?

The d16y8 swap's not a bad idea. I believe the y8's compression ratio is about 0.2 higher than the y5 (if I remember correctly, the y5 has a 9.4:1 CR and the y8 has a 9.6:1), so you'll be able to make a little more power with the same mods on the y8 compared to the y5. The 9.6:1 CR of the y8 isn't high enough that you have to worry when you boost it. Any idea what size turbo you plan on running? Also, if you're new to turbocharger systems, I'd highly advise you stay away from ebay kits; they're literally hit or miss... I've seen people run them with no problems, and I've seen the turbos blow within 1,000 miles.

And like Trust said, replace the fluids since the y8's been sitting.

Welcome to the forums, by the way... I'm sure you'll find all the info you need here for your car

Thanks for the info guys. I was planning on changing all fluids with the swap. The trans is a manual but of coarse. You are right on the compression ratios for the y5 and y8 but that was not my concern between the two motors. Its the difference between Vtec and Vtec-e. Can you make power with the Vtec-e motor or is it untuneable?? As for turbos I had a 87 Supra Turbo with 300hp and have a bit of experience with turbo systems. Not sure on what turbo I am going to use, any suggestions? I will be getting most of the kit from Ebay. I am not going to buy a kit insted I am pieceing together my own. I will be using a cast manifold and intercooler universal kit. Turbo must be a t3 t4 style with internal wastegate boost at 5-8psi. BOV will be a Greddy RS. As for fuel management an ECU reflash or V-AFC and some bigger injectors down the road. What do you think??

sounds good, just always buy good name brand components for the major parts of your kit (turbo, wastegate, bov, boost controller, etc.)
